How healthy is your organisation?
- Do you have a sense that something is not quite right with your workplace culture?
- Do performance appraisals and staff reviews feel intimidating or stressful?
- Are you finding issues arising in the workplace difficult or impossible to resolve?
Signs there may be problems in your workplace
- Staff turnover is higher than you would like
- Sick leave levels are more than you would expect
- Absenteeism is becoming an issue
- Productivity is down
- Performance standards are not being met
This Working Life conducts independent workplace reviews to strengthen your organisation by tapping into the insight of your employees.
Workplace reviews are a great way to validate your staff and ensure they feel valued and heard.
They identify what’s working well, what’s not and give staff an opportunity to recognise and have ownership of issues and contribute to their solutions.
The major benefit of engaging your staff in this collaborative, proactive process is that workplace challenges and issues are addressed early, and before issues escalate, risking conflict or complaints.
Workplace reviews encourage shared responsibility for any challenges, shifting the focus from ‘the problem’ to ‘the solution’.
Workplace Reviews:
- Build trust
- Share responsibility for finding solutions to workplace challenges
- Strengthen collaboration and teamwork
- Highlight to staff that their ideas matter and their contributions are valued
- Challenge assumptions
- Clarify roles and responsibilities
- Identify issues and gaps
- Foster creative solutions
- Respect employees’ rights
- Build engagement and commitment to the organisation
- Address challenges before they become problems
- Help meet OHS legal responsibilities, including Duty of Care
Workplace Reviews
The three-step workplace review process is:
1. Individual Staff Reviews: Each staff member meets with the This Working Life consultant to gather feedback on what is going well at work, what challenges the person faces and potential solutions to address these. This Working Life will record key points, check these with the person to make sure these reflect the information shared, and seek agreement for these to be shared with the organisation. These meetings are confidential. Staff members are informed beforehand that nothing discussed will be shared without their explicit agreement.
2. Action Workshop: This Working Life collates the information from the individual staff reviews, identifies the common themes and challenges, and presents these to appropriate leaders/managers. This Working Life then facilitates an Action Workshop with all relevant staff to explore solutions and actions to address challenges. Constraints on specific actions are also identified.
3. Implementation of Agreed Actions: This Working Life collates the solutions identified in the Action Workshop, including any from leaders/managers. Solutions are prioritised and short / long term actions agreed. Individual staff members or small teams are allocated to plan and implement the actions, and track and record progress.
